When Janice was in high school, she had obtained a reputation as a person who studied much of the time and who rarely, if ever, had fun drinking with her buddies. She seemed highly motivated to do well academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only liked but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial point of view.
After much deliberation, finally she made up her mind that she wanted to be a trial lawyer. In order to bring this about, nevertheless, she would first have to finish four years of undergrad education.
After Graduating From High School Janice Gets Accepted Into A Prominent Undergraduate University as a Springboard For a Career as a Lawyer
After Janice finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into a prestigious program in English. Her logic for this decision was that this subject matter would be a good springboard for law school and wouldn’t be comparable to the majority of law school applicants who decide to take political science as their undergraduate major.
After graduating with a 3.6 GPA at the undergrad level, she applied to and was accepted at an outstanding law school at one of the Ivy League universities.
She liked her legal studies but every so often she was weighed down from all the work that law school entailed. In much the same way as she had done in her high school and undergraduate days, nevertheless, she made buddies easily but almost never got involved in social activities until the quarter had been concluded.
After Being Delighted With the Fact That She Had Done a Super Job on Her Exams, Janice Wanted to Let Her Hair Down and Do Something Besides Studying For a Change
Janice was the type of person who worked in a vigorous manner to finish what she was doing and then would take a couple of days off when she could. As it turns out, nevertheless, virtually all of the things she did between school sessions or during her summer vacations did not have much to do with drinking. Obviously, Janice was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were finished and thrilled with the fact that she had done extremely well on her tests, however, she felt like celebrating.
Drinking at a Local Nightclub Results in An Alcohol Overdose, Calling 911, The Emergency Number, and a Visit to An Alcohol Treatment Center
So Janice and some of her friends from school went to a local watering hole where they had a few drinks. As the hours flew by, Janice continued to drink without having any concerns about homework the following day. In fact, Janice mentioned to her classmates how enjoyable it was to have fun drinking with her law school pals.
As the evening proceeded, Janice and her pals continued to drink. Indeed, she was having such a terrific time that she didn’t want the night to come to an end. It was almost like she was making up for lost time and trying to pack a year’s worth of enjoyment into a single evening. Such a “game plan,” however, infrequently works. In fact, when Janice went to the lady’s room and threw up, her friends started to get anxious about her health.
A few moments later when Janice started to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, nevertheless, her pals instantaneously realized that they needed to call the emergency number and ask for emergency assistance because they believed that Janice was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Once Janice was in the rehab hospital, the presiding emergency room physician validated what her classmates had suspected, to be precise, that Janice had substantially more alcohol than her body could process and, as a consequence, she suffered from an alcohol overdose.
After the emergency room treatment team pumped her stomach until no gastric contents were discernible, Janice was wheeled to the recovery room. After staying roughly five hours in recovery, Janice was then transported to one of the regular hospital rooms. Fortunately, the most precarious part of her hospitalization was over and all of her vital signs were once again in the normal range.
In response to Janice’s situation, her friends attentively called her parents. As a consequence, early the next day, her Mom and Dad and her favorite pals went to the hospital to visit Janice.
Janice Comes Close to Losing Her Life, is Happy to be Alive, and Promises to Never Again Drink in an Excessive Manner
Janice was very aware that she had dodged a bullet and, as a result, was happy to be alive. Her Mom and Dad knew how relentlessly she worked in graduate school and how little she permitted herself to socialize with her friends. Nevertheless, they also realized that Janice needed to keep away from abusive drinking.
As a result, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking circumstance develops, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Janice agreed and gave her word to her Mom and Dad and to her friends that she would never again drink in an irresponsible and hazardous manner. As stated by Janice, “I never had a clue that I would become one of the alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics in the local city newspaper. I now grasp the fact that abusive drinking is not for me. I say publicly that this will never happen again.”
Fortunately, Janice was not only “school smart” but she also had a lot of common sense. In other words, she quickly grasped the fact that she had made an error in judgment and made up her mind that she would never make the same error again. In truth, she now knew that she had involved herself in “binge drinking” and that even one instance of this form of excessive drinking can end in a fatality.
